In the series titled Illegal Identities: Rewriting the Queer Narrative, I juxtapose queer love with the modern political climate. I explore queer identity using images of local LGBTQ+ members and historical symbols of queerness, such as lavender, roses, violets, rainbows, and pink triangles. These images are painted on top of anti-LGBTQ news articles in order to rewrite anti-LTBTQ rhetoric. My goal is to paint queer liberation, give a voice to fellow members of the LGBTQ community, and open a dialogue about the injustices we face.
